In short: PixelRoom only looks at an image when someone asks it to. The image goes to Google's Gemini AI to write the description. PixelRoom doesn't save images or descriptions.
Who runs PixelRoom
PixelRoom is an independent project run by one person in the United Kingdom. It is not made by or connected to Discord. You can reach me through the PixelRoom support server.
What PixelRoom looks at
PixelRoom does nothing until someone uses one of its commands. When you use /describe, /ask, /readtext or the Describe image menu, PixelRoom reads:
- the image, GIF or video in the message you chose, or in the latest messages of that channel,
- your question, if you use /ask,
- the name of the person who posted the image and when it was posted, to tell you whose image it is,
- the language your Discord is set to, so it can answer in your language.
To find the latest image, PixelRoom looks through the most recent messages in the channel. It ignores everything except images, GIFs and videos, and it doesn't keep any of the messages.
What PixelRoom does not do
- It doesn't save images, videos, descriptions or your questions.
- It doesn't read private messages.
- It doesn't identify real people from their faces.
- It doesn't sell or share data with anyone except Google, as explained below.
Google Gemini
The descriptions are written by Google's Gemini AI. When you ask PixelRoom about an image, the image (and your question, if you asked one) is sent to Google to create the answer. Google handles this data under its own terms for paid API use, which say that it is not used to train Google's AI models. You can read Google's Gemini API terms.
Technical logs
To find and fix problems, PixelRoom keeps a short technical log on its server. It records which command was used, by which Discord username, and the file name of the image. It never records the image itself, the description, or your question. Logs are deleted automatically after 14 days.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what information about you is held, ask for it to be deleted, or object to how it is used. Because PixelRoom keeps almost nothing, the only data about you would be in the technical logs, and those are deleted within 14 days anyway. To make a request, contact me on the support server.
If you're not happy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Removing PixelRoom
Server admins can remove PixelRoom at any time from the server settings. Once it is removed, it can't see anything on that server.
